What the register actually contains

Almost everything a reader gets wrong about this layer comes from one split, so it is drawn first. 103 entities are registered to be appointed in their own name. 81 are recognised and not registered: real firms, on IBBI’s own list, that cannot themselves hold a mandate.

“Company”, “Limited Company” and “Private Limited Company” are three separate values IBBI uses for what is often the same thing. They are printed as filed rather than merged, because merging them would be our judgement standing in for the register’s.
Why a mandate count here is a floor. 61 entities are named on 294 companies across IBBI’s entity assignment pages, matched by registration number and never by name. An entity that is recognised but not registered has no such page at all, so its involvement is unknown rather than zero. That is why this directory is ordered by partner count and not by mandates.
The firm is half the answer
An entity holds the mandate; a named professional discharges it. The individual records — outcomes, recovery against liquidation value, time to plan — sit on the professional’s own page, and the valuers who set the numbers those outcomes are measured against sit on theirs.
Where this comes from. IBBI’s register of recognised Insolvency Professional Entities and its separate register of entities registered as insolvency professionals, read 19 Sep 2026, together with the entity assignment pages. The two registers are clubbed on the four-digit IPE number and never on a firm name. Authorisation validity is computed against today, not copied from IBBI’s Yes/No flag — on two entities that flag reads “Yes” over a date IBBI’s own record says has already passed, so the date is treated as authoritative and the flag is not stored. Partner lists are today’s position: a professional who has moved firms appears at the firm they are at now, and a past mandate stays credited to whoever discharged it. Something wrong on this page?
